Spotlight on Patio Furniture

The time spent in your patio is the most enjoyable and you need to have a patio that allows you to relax. The atmosphere of the patio is highly important, and it is directly linked to the furniture you are choosing.

The patio can be a very nice place to spend some time and read or simply relax over a glass of vine or o coffee, alone or with your friends. For this reason the patio must be arranged in a manner that must induce calmness and joy. Luckily, there are several different styles and models of patio furniture that you can acquire.

However, in order to have a nicely decorated patio with the right furniture, you need to be able to choose the exact pieces that match your patio and make the most of it. The patio furniture must consist of a few chairs, a table, and an umbrella; perhaps even a swing or two. However, all these are available in a variety of shapes, sizes and materials, and one might get confused and unable to pick the right pieces. Also, you must think about the material that you want to have in your patio. The furniture for patio is available in numerous types of materials.

Each material has its advantages and disadvantages. Ones are very good looking, others are more practical. If you will need to take your patio furniture inside, you should definitely choose an easy portable material, such as the aluminum or PVC or plastic furniture. The aluminum looks great too- giving a classy look to your patio, and it can be easily stored and carried back out, when the patio time has come. The plastic’s main advantage is that is extra light and can be kept in rain or practically any type of weather, and it will be safe and sound. The plastic is even cheaper.

The wooden articles have always inspired a very relaxing atmosphere, and the wooden patio furniture is among people’s favorites. However, if you are experiencing harsh climate, cold climate or wet climate, this type of furniture can be rather pretentious. But, if you take good care of it, the pleasant look of your welcoming patio will attract all your friends on a warm summer evening.

All things considered, the patio furniture must be carefully chosen, and you must consider all the pluses and the minuses of each material. It I up to you to choose the right style that can fit in your patio. The rest is tranquility and relaxation.

Theater Set-Up: What to remember when putting together a home theater

When it comes to putting money into the development of your home, one of the very worthwhile investments is an ideal home theater system. To ensure crisp sound, great visuals, and an amazing performance, you want the best equipment for your particular space.

Not everyone is able to have their home system custom installed. Follow some of these worthwhile tips if you are bringing your stereo equipment home and installing all of the components yourself.

Installation is not as simple as placing the plasma TV and speakers up to the appropriate shelf of your home entertainment stand. For the less than technical, it may take a couple of hours to sort out the appropriate wires and connection cables and layout the correct plan for all of the home theater equipment. Take your time and feel comfortable with the plans. Make sure that the equipment you bought has all of the appropriate parts for solid installation. Taking the time to assess everything will save you stress later on.

Some pieces, such as a projector system, will require calibration and adjustment in addition to mounting. If you are unsure about how best to do this, schedule to work on installing everything in a couple of days so that you won’t be pressured to install equipment incorrectly or to settle for imperfect calibration.

Ask your retailer when you purchase a home theater system about any optional or “not included” components that may best go with your home theater design. This will save you from having to make several trips to the store for additional parts.

Most home theaters designs include a television - whether plasma, LCD, projector system, or CRT - some form of speaker package for the audio home theater system element, a DVD player, and a cable box, satellite TV system or other connection system. Depending on how sophisticated you wish your home theater to be, you may include high-end receivers, subwoofers, and universal remote controls. Choose what is right for your household – don’t succumb to hypes or pressure. It is your home atmosphere that matters.

As you are planning your room, decide where the best speaker placement is for the size of your room. If need be, move furniture around for the best sound or buy longer wires to easily connect your components in the way you want. Most manufacturers will recommend placement options for the particular speaker types. Subwoofers can generally be placed to the front and left of the TV. Other speakers should be placed to the right and left of the TV and, depending on how many you have, midway in the room on both the right and left and behind the main viewing area. As you place speakers, stop and play your favorite DVD and see if you are getting the sound you want. Move the speaker if you are not.
.

Once the speakers are in place, connect them to the DVD player, cable box and the television, placing each component in the proper place as you get it connected. Play your favorite DVD in as you put on the finishing touches to test the sound quality, connections and the room lighting.

These tips are simple but they could save you a lot of time if you are installing a home theater system on your own.

Modern Light Fixtures Serving Double Duty

Early light fixtures seemed to have a flair for the dramatic. Impossibly large ornate chandeliers greeted guests in foyers and lit large dining rooms while providing a decadent ambiance. This mindset continued with the creation of the Tiffany lamp at the turn of the century. Louis Comfort Tiffany’s new lamps featured scraps of stained glass fashioned together to form exquisite shades with solid metal bases, a timeless design that is still produced today. These and other early light fixtures were a graceful combination of beauty and practicality.

This didn’t continue, however. A horrible lull in lighting design blanketed a fairly large portion of time resulting in some drab and boring light fixtures. They weren’t all bad, of course, but it seems like the ones that ended up in most people’s houses were. Bad, that is. The time I’m referring to here is roughly from the 1950’s to the 1980’s. Perhaps lighting was viewed from a more utilitarian point of view during this time, or mass produced lighting was just in a funk, design-wise. Whatever the case, the bulk of the lighting produced during this time just wasn’t all that impressive from a style and design perspective.

Over the last ten or so years, a shift back to artistic and innovative lighting designs has taken place resulting in some beautiful fixtures. Floor lamps are no longer defined by the standard base and shade construction, as slim tower designs and multi-headed models have become staples in many manufacturers catalogues. These contemporary fixtures are works of art as much as they are sources of light. Glass and metal have replaced ceramic and linen as the most common materials used, adding to the modern aesthetic of these fixtures.

Many of the same features listed above apply to table lamps as well. In a lot of cases, manufacturers simply make a smaller version of a floor lamp to work as a corresponding table lamp. However, there are still plenty of contemporary table lamps that employ the base – shade standard. It just works. Modern shades have begun to take on different shapes and can be found in a variety of materials, though, so these aren’t your grandma’s table lamps.

Delightful Lamps to Light up Your Home

Adding light to any room instantly heightens the look, style and ambiance. Who wouldn’t love a bit of light to their home, since lighting is one of the more affordable ways to redecorate? With lighting options such as table lamps and floor lamps never going out of style, it’s a lot easier to choose which type of lighting will go with your home while complementing your personal style.

Table lamps, for instance, come in a variety of designs, sizes, and shapes, but regardless they all perform the same function. Ideally used as reading lights, table lamps can also be easily used as accent lights for any room or hallway in your home. Now, this all depends upon the style and size of your table lamp. If per chance your lamp features a traditional style, complete with an accordion lamp shade and pull chain, it may be best to utilize it as a reading lamp in your living room, den or bedroom. Accent lamps usually have a much more unique feel to them and have a contemporary design. These are best used as corner pieces along the walls of your living room or foyer. Contemporary styled lamps usually sit well on console tables, end table pieces and coffee tables, which will add a hint of loud style to any demure room in a tasteful yet fun manner.

Floor lamps also act as terrific accent lights while offering an illuminating glow to any room. Usually placed in corners, there are a few types of floor lamps that you could get away with placing right next to your sofa or love seat. For instance, if your floor lamp happens to be adjustable and is used mainly as a reading lamp, then it’s perfectly alright to have it placed by your reading couch. Otherwise, it’s best to keep floor lamps in the corner. Torchiere lamps are the prime example of floor lamps that should always be kept in the corner. The only tricky thing about torchieres is that you have to make sure nothing will fall into the shade. Since they’re upward facing lamps, spiders, bugs and even curtains can fall in, which may bulb burnouts or worse yet, fires.

Essential to homes everywhere, lamps are the quintessential to interior design. And with the right lamp, you’ll be looking at your home in an entirely different light!

The Lights are off, that Means Do Not Disturb!

Ever had that sinking, inevitable feeling that visitors, in-laws or even trick-or-treaters were going to be making their way to your home even though you’re just not in the mood to see any of them? Or maybe you’re just looking forward to turning in early at eight in the evening and you’re hoping to not be disturbed? Well whatever the reason, keeping your lights off is one of the key ways to prevent such annoyances from happening.

Turning off all your lights, and this includes outdoor lights like porch lights and post mounted lanterns in addition to your regular indoor lights like table lamps and wall sconces will surely fend off visitors during the night hours. In keeping them on, not only would you be inviting these guests, pests, what have you, to your home. You could also get a little creative with this tactic; for instance, you could look into getting motion sensor outdoor lighting installed outside your porch or front door.

Think about it, how many times have you been disturbed by someone who didn’t even consider giving you a phone call to see if you were available? With a motion sensor light, you’ll know when someone is coming up to your home, giving you enough time to decide whether you want to invite the visitor in or completely ignore them. Speaking from experience though, there is one downfall to motion sensor outdoor lighting: anything that can and will move, such as a person, car or even a cat will set off the motion sensor detector. As such, this may become an inconvenience to some but truthfully, I’ve come to know the difference between a walking human being to an all-wheel drive vehicle pulling up to my house.

But to ensure that you get no visitors, keep your lights off and put a note stating that you are not to be disturbed on your front door. The only risk is that you’ll have a handful of angry trick-or-treaters who will probably egg your house, along with angry in-laws that will give you an earful about how they feel about your unapologetic note. But look on the bright side, at least you’re doing your part to save energy and cut the electricity bill!

Tropical Decorating Tips And Ideas

For most of you reading this there's nothing better than the thought of somewhere sunny and warm. Someplace where people would plan to retire to in the sun. This is the same type of place you'd like to go on holidays too and just enjoy the overall feeling of wellness that a sunny climate can give you. So why not have that experience early and put the feel of a sunny climate right into your own home, so you can be in the tropics every single day?

To make a start at creating your own desert island experience at home you'll need to look for colors that are both bright and relaxing whilst still conveying the tropical theme. "Cold" colors are to be avoided at all costs. Why not start with white and pale creams to set the mood. Then after establishing this basic tone for the room you can add pale shades of blue and green to really flesh out the color scheme in the room.

With the floor, there are two main options; tiling and wooden flooring. Tiles generally look best, but hardwood covered with a suitable rug will also look great, and will also protect your new wooded floor. To give your room the feel of a beach, you could have a sisal rug in the room, although the furniture will be more important than what you put on the floor in the long run.

Next up for redecoration are the windows of the room. You can really start to have fun here. Sheer curtains can be used easily to cover up the windows in a bedroom without cutting off all the light when drawn back, and bamboo blinds will also look great if you decide to go down that route.

Dark wood and rattan furniture go really well with the tropical style, and if they have brightly colored throws they look even better. Once you have completed all of this, from the paint to furniture, you can put some tropical accessories in the room also, such as bold colored cushions, tropical posters, and finally; a fish tank with tropical fish will fit in brilliantly.

So if you want to take the tropics home why not look at a tropical decorating theme for your home?

Lighting Systems

One of the most effective ways of changing the appearance of your home, office or outdoors is to get the lighting done by installing some of the most interesting and unique lighting systems. Lighting system is a proper method of lighting that can enhance task performance or aesthetics of an area, while avoiding energy wastages. With the evolving needs of the customers the lighting systems have gone though a variety of changes in order to cater to the changing needs and to give a better and cost effective solution to all the lighting needs.

Indoor lighting is done with the help of fixtures and furnishings whereas the outdoor landscaping can contain lighting as an intrinsic component. So in both the indoor and outdoor lighting the lighting systems play a crucial role. The decision of the lighting system to be used falls with the decorator who decides for the proper ambience or the aesthetic appeal that needs to be created in the particular space. Overall the lighting systems can change the way you used to look at the space.

There are many types of lighting systems to suit different needs and specifications. Broadly the lighting systems can be classified as track lighting systems, low voltage lighting system and cable lighting system. These lighting systems are specified for different purposes and can be effectively used when installed separate or combined.

The track lighting system is an alternative to conventional wired lamps and fixed recessed lighting designs and fixtures. In most of the cases the track lighting systems are based on a length of exposed electrical wiring hidden inside a plastic or aluminum track. The track lighting system is easy to install and this track can be wired directly into pre-existing circuits or plugged into wall sockets for power. Te track can be mounted to the wall or ceiling to allow a separate lamp and socket assembly that can be snapped into place anywhere along the track itself. In the track lighting system the metal plates in the socket make contact with the charged wiring in the track that in turn activates the light-bulb. One of the best uses of track lighting is when the conventional lighting is problematic. The track lighting system is commonly used to isolate a work of art. In the track lighting system several pin-spot lamps can be installed in a single track and pointed in any number of directions.

The low voltage lighting systems are energy efficient, economical and create an appealing effect. They are commonly used for landscaping and other uses. In a low voltage lighting system the main components are plug-in transformer, low voltage cable and low voltage light fixtures. In general the transformer plugs into a grounded outdoor power receptacle and reduces 110 volt current, which is a standard, to a safe 12 volts that is considered as low voltage. The low voltage cable attaches to the transformer and distributes power to the light fixtures connected along the length of the cable.

Flooring Materials

Just a couple of decades ago, wall to wall flooring was quite popular among the homeowners, but then there were not so many options to experiment with. The only choice the homeowners could get those days were linoleum which was quite popular for the kitchen flooring and the other was the inexpensive vinyl tiles which used to be covering the bathrooms. Since then, with the changing times, there have been a lot many developments and the choices of flooring materials have evolved with the changing needs of the homeowners. Now what we find in the market is the wide variety of flooring materials which not only give you a great choice but are superior to the earlier materials in more than one ways.

So what are the choices today and why are the flooring materials more superior? The choices today are a combination of the finest materials in various colors and textures and pricing to suit every budget. Today the most popular flooring materials are wooden, stone, hardwood, vinyl, linoleum, cork, oak and tiles etc. These materials can be used separately or in combination in the same house or even in the same room. There can be many combinations with these materials which can work out according to your creativity. The flooring materials available today are far more superior and cost effective to the earlier choices we had. The flooring material today offers more choice, durability and easy for installation and maintenance. So at the end of the day it works out to be more cost effective and hence superior.

To make a choice of the flooring material you need to weigh it on many aspects. These can be flooring material style, scale, texture and additional design elements. These aspects depend a lot on carpet space or space to be floored, taste of the homeowner, comfort level, and finally budget. If you are planning to have a flooring makeover, study the work to be executed based on these aspects so that you will be more prepared to make a choice when it comes to choosing a flooring material and its overall installation.

Some materials become a popular choice because of many functional qualities. One such popular flooring material is Vinyl. Vinyl sheet flooring is much popular in United States and you will find it used extensively across your neighborhood. Vinyl sheet flooring is sometimes essential from the safety point of view to areas like kitchen and bathrooms which are exposed to wear and tear. Vinyl sheets offer a great traction compared to other materials like stone or hardwood and are a safe flooring choice in home areas which experience moisture. Vinyl flooring also gets cleaned easily and saves time on maintenance. Apart from vinyl other flooring materials popularly used are hardwood, stone, cork, oak etc. So if you want something exciting and comfortable at the same time in your house, try changing the floor.

Electrical Underfloor Heating For The Home and the Outdoors

Electrical underfloor heating is gaining in popularity throughout the United Kingdom for a number of different reasons, such as: it is inexpensive to install, economical to run and hardly needs any maintenance. It can be installed under every floor type or laid on an existing floor and covered with a normal floor covering. Electrical underfloor heating systems are generally available as heating mats: the heating cables are fixed to a mat, which is then applied to the floor and fitted by a professional or a DIY enthusiast.

For a DIY project some basic information is needed: the floor needs to be measured to determine what size of heating mat needs to be fitted, and a sketch made of the area to include where the power supply will be connected. The heating mat is then laid out according to the plan, and the matting, but not the cables, can be cut to fit around corners and obstacles. Some floor types, for example concrete, will need to have insulation fitted to the floor before the heating mat is laid, to stop the base floor absorbing all the heat. Thermostats can be fitted in each room, except for a bathroom, where the thermostat is situated outside the bathroom.

A qualified electrician should connect the electrical underfloor heating system and ideally, the system should be connected via a fused spur, which will isolate the system for any maintenance requirements of the heating system.

If the electrical underfloor heating mat is to be covered with tiles, tile adhesive is laid over the heating mat and the tiles are laid as normal. The floor should be allowed to dry for a minimum of three days before the heating is activated. The heating should then be turned on for one hour for the first day and increased by one hour per day over a period of six to seven days before the heating is left on continually.

Electrical underfloor heating is not restricted to the inside of the home: there are some heating mats that are designed for the outdoors. No longer will the driveway or path need to be cleared from ice or snow, because the outdoor electrical underfloor heating system has kept the area free of frozen precipitation. These outdoor electrical underfloor heating mats are designed to heat up driveways, paths, ramps, and porches. It is cost efficient as you only heat the essential ground areas, for example, for a driveway only the parts that are driven on are heated, and it is ideal if you have a disabled ramp that needs to be kept free of snow and ice. Just think of all the backache you’ll be preventing!

Another use for electrical underfloor heating is the greenhouse. The heating system warms the soil, which ensures the plants starts early, and a harvest is longer. Plants can also be cultivated that normally only grow in subtropical/topical regions. The heat in the soil and air can be adapted for the optimal growing conditions of the plants, which depends on the type and age of the plants being grown. Typical temperatures for plants in the greenhouse are between 15º and 25ºC, and for cuttings and seedbeds, the temperature is about 30ºC.

It isn’t just humans or plants that benefit from electrical underfloor heating: it is farm animals. It has been found, when electrical underfloor heating is used in buildings that house piglets and chickens: they have a higher rate of survival, piglets develop faster and the heating system is more cost effective than traditional modes of heating.

Therefore, DIY underfloor heating system is versatile and practical for today’s modern standard of living.

Why Should You Renovate Your Home?

When you’ve made the decision that a home renovation is affordable and desirable, ask yourself exactly why you’d like to renovate. There’s no right or wrong reason to renovate your home. After all, it is your home! You and your family get to make this decision according to your needs and your budget. There are three types of renovations you may want to consider; renovations that reflect your lifestyle, Renovations that are necessary for the upgrade of your home, and renovations that involve essential maintenance and repair.

Maybe, after all these years, you simply need a change of scenery. Growing children need a place of their own to play and get rowdy - just because they’re kids! Perhaps your lifestyle should accommodate the needs of your family. Does your kitchen need more light? Attractive tract lighting or a skylight may be just the thing for you. Did you know that you can create a huge amount of extra living space by renovating that dingy old unfinished basement and that never-visited attic? Wall borders are very popular, and can create a whole new look for bedrooms, kitchens, and bathrooms.

Home upgrade, or retrofit, innovations are about the “mechanics” of your home. Installing more insulation to reduce heating and cooling costs is one example. Putting in dual-pane glass or solar panels can also help with the electric or gas bills. Maybe it’s time to replace the furnace since it’s been contrary lately and the warranty has expired. Focusing on the “shell” of your home in this manner, you’ll find that annual maintenance isn’t necessary. But the longer you stay in your home, the more these things become issues.

Renovations that involve maintenance and essentials repairs shouldn’t be put off; this is part of the annual maintenance your home requires. If you’re a smart homeowner, protecting your home investment is essential. For example, look at the calking around your windows and your roof shingles. Maintenance renovations stop problems before they start; small problems that could easily turn into catastrophes!

Regardless of your reasons for renovating your home, this can be done within the budget you can afford. If you’re planning to remain in your home for the long-haul, all three above-mentioned reasons are quite valid. If you plan to sell your home in the future, the right renovations will improve its value and selling price.

Tips for picking the perfect house plan

Too big, too little. Too fancy, too plain. With myriad options for house plans available today, it’s hard to know where to begin.

Consider the following issues and ask yourself some telling questions. The answers will help you decide on a design that’s just right for your family as well as your budget and lot.

Square one

The real estate agent’s mantra “location, location, location” rings true even when you’re building from scratch. From privacy to orientation, your lot is likely to influence which plan you choose.

“Theoretically, it’s best to start by finding a lot because then you’ll have a clear idea of what square footage will and will not fit on the property,” says Robert Martin, Architecture Editor at Southern Living. “It’s a dangerous proposition to try to gooseneck a house into a lot that’s really not ideal for that plan.”

The property owner can seek a variance to exceed the “building envelope,” the allowable area that a home can occupy on a lot. However, the process is often lengthy and there’s no guarantee that permission will be granted.

Local zoning boards and community organizations often require a house be set back a certain distance from the street. Before purchasing a corner lot, find out if front-yard setback regulations apply to the lot’s front and side-street boundaries. This could substantially reduce the area available for a home’s footprint. Easements as well as natural features, like rock outcroppings and mature trees, may also influence where the house can be located.

“Some communities promote close neighbors, and some communities promote more breathing space,” Martin says. “It’s not wise to use up every square foot of building space because you’ll have less of a yard.”

If the lot is located in a suburban neighborhood, consider the placement of windows – take care that they will not align exactly with neighbors’ views. Driveways should also be taken into account to make sure that there’s plenty of room for parking and turning around.

Streets and topography may be the main determinates of a house’s orientation, but it’s also a good idea to consider sun exposures when possible. A homeowner might reorganize a floor plan to take advantage of morning and afternoon light. Martin says that covered porches that face a southern exposure can help block out heat and sunlight.

Remember that plans are not necessarily “as is.” Builders can use a reverse set of plans (sometimes called a mirror image) to better site a house. It’s also possible to hire an architect or modification service to personalize a plan. Ask if reproducible prints or electronic CADD files are available for the selected plan. Either will make the alteration process quicker and easier.

Complimenting your lifestyle

Before delving into the thousands of plans available today, evaluate your current living situation. Look around and ask what works and what doesn’t.

Consider which features matter most to you and which floor plan best accommodates your family’s lifestyle. “Does the floor plan live the way you live?” Martin asks. Are you an empty nester who’s ready to downsize? A single-level ranch home might be your answer. Is this a house where you expect to raise a family? Check out plans that feature great communal spaces as well as a private master suite. Would you live outside 12 months a year if you could? Pick an airy floor plan with plenty of porches and more windows than wall space.

When you decide on a house plan, you’re also choosing a way of life. Do you host dinner parties often, or do you only step inside the dining room on holidays? Today, many families forego a dedicated formal dining room. Instead, a casual eating nook connected to the kitchen accommodates week-night meals, Little League pizza parties and all their entertaining needs. If you work from home or have school-aged children, an office or study may be a necessity. Think about the rooms and how you and your family will use them.

Marrying the old and the new

Magazines and TV shows often tempt us to start decorating from a blank slate, but few people have the luxury to fill a house with new furniture. Keep your existing furniture and aesthetics in mind. It takes a special talent to make a mid-century modern couch work in a Colonial manor house.

The main thing to keep in mind is how the arrangement of furniture will influence the overall feel, flow and function of a room. How will your prized possessions work and look arranged in the new space? Scale is key. A soaring, two-story ceiling can easily dwarf low, horizontal furniture. To avert the Alice-in-Wonderland effect, make sure the plan has strong, vertical architectural elements like a chimney and tall windows. Similarly, an overstuffed couch, two armchairs and a media cabinet might make a small living room look cluttered.

Tip: To help visualize your current furniture in a new space, make a scale model of each item – simple rectangles, squares and circles cut out of construction paper will do. Slide the stand-ins around the floor plan to see which configurations will work. Make sure there will be enough room to walk and adequate clearance for doors to open.

Know what you’re getting

Be aware of what is and isn’t included in the blueprints before you purchase a plan. Most blueprints suggest electrical plans designed to meet national standards. However, varying interpretations and the fact that codes are subject to change mean that the placement of switches, outlets and light fixtures is ultimately subject to local building codes. Heating and plumbing plans are usually not included, so you will need to consult with subcontractors. A local builder or engineer should review the plan to ensure that it complies with all building codes and subdivision restrictions.

Due to concerns over energy costs, safety and other factors, some cities and states require a licensed architect or engineer to review and seal, or officially approve, a blueprint prior to construction. Do your homework. Contact to a local building official to see if such a review is necessary in your area.

Taking the plan from blueprint to dream house

A builder may provide a ballpark estimate of construction costs from a study plan, but he or she should consult the working drawings to give a more accurate figure. Many variables can affect the bottom line, including the choice and availability of materials, labor costs, choice of finishes and degree of detail. Ask several contractors for competing bids.

If you’ve got the vision but not the bankroll (at least at this time), it may be wise to choose a plan with bonus space that can be built out as finances allow.

Be sure to allot a portion of your budget to landscaping and finish details. Architects and interior designers recommend that you don’t skimp on the seemingly small stuff. Higher-quality trim and building materials may trump extra square footage. “Good, insulated windows may be costly initially,” Martin says, “but over the long run, they’re going to save you money on your power bill.” Crown moulding and custom cabinetry can make a stock plan feel like it was designed specifically for your family. Conservatory Room Glass: Understanding The Options

Especially when you are being given advice by someone who does not have your best interests at heart; rather they are thinking about their sales tally at the end of the week! When it comes to conservatory glass it is fair to say that there are a lot of options, so choosing the best one can be a challenge at the best of times.
As a common rule, sunrooms are very warm in the summer and are very cold in the winter. Due to this, the windows which you select play an important role in terms of controlling the temperature. Using glass replacement windows which can be used along with the lines of Pilkington “K” glass or anti sun glasses is very helpful in terms of controlling the temperature and atmosphere of your room so that you take the enjoyment of it through out the year. When you are selecting glass for an all season sunroom, it advisable that you utilize double glassed frames with 16 millimeter polycarbonate as this is one of the best window features which will help in terms of controlling the atmosphere and temperature of the room.

You might be thinking about what is low e glass, or Pilkington “K” glass? This is a different type of glass which is much more costly then regular glass as they also have metal coating on the sides which allows for short wave radiation which is sunlight to pass through it, but it rejects the big wave radiation like heat. In short, your room will be having light always, but you should not at all worry about the room as it is not going to get too hot or too cold. As far as the look is concerned then there is not much of a difference with the naked eye.
It was observed that Pilkington K glass can give better results up to thirty percent insulation as compared to the other double glazed windows; this result was given by the research tests which were associated by different variety of sources.

If you desire to go very far more additional miles, than Aragon filled frames is better option for that particular person as it is considered to be better than other frames. As In terms of Insulation, Aragon is too helpful. In addition to all this, it is not so costly, because for just about per sealed unit any where in UK, it is just about in only ten to fifteen pounds. Now, it is up to you, to judge what kind of glass is better, whether it is fair giving money for the low glass or its good to have Pilkington “K” glasses that too for just few pennies. But always keep one thing in mind while getting Pilkington “K” glasses because it is not good to use for your normal and regular window panes the reason lies besides is that it will not be having a positive effect to a great extent.

Installin Modular steam showers

Installing a home steam rooms or steam showers can seem like an overwhelming task at first glance. The average do-it-yourself can install most steam showers with a little help from a licensed electrician or plumber. Although there are many steam shower units on the market today. The basic concept is the same in all of them and their installations are similar.

The first step in installing a steam bath or steam room is to level the base. This is either a massage bathtub or a shower stand. It is important that the base is steady so the shower is secure and the water drains properly. After the base is leveled the first wall is connected to the base which is typically the front of the steam shower or the doors. This is screwed with self tapping screws or bolted to the base. After this is secured the side walls are attached. It is important to read your installation instructions because many models require you to use silicone to seal the corners of the steam shower. Some models use rubber seals as an alternative for silicone sealant. After the side walls of the steam shower are attached the top of the shower enclosure is attached. At this point this is when the shower becomes sturdy. Tighten all the surrounding bolts and top bolts after apply the required sealant. Connect all color coordinated wires to their corresponding wires.

If you’re remodeling an already existing bathroom the plumbing is already installed and with little modification is ready for use. Almost every steam shower today comes with both flexible water lines and a flexible drain hose, as long as the water lines are on the wall where the steam shower is being installed and the drain is underneath the base the shower can be installed without any modification to your plumbing. If your project is new construction using PEX plumbing is a cheaper alternative to tradition copper piping. It is also much easier to work with which saves time.

The steam room needs to have its own dedicated circuit and larger units with Jacuzzi bathtubs may also need an additional circuit. The steam shower circuits must be a GFCI (ground-fault-circuit-interrupter), this ensures user safety against electrical shock. It is also important to check your GFCI circuit regularly to ensure that it is functioning properly.

Many manufacturers directions fail to talk about ventilating the overhead ceiling fan. This is important because the steam being vented from the shower creates excess moisture which can cause damage to your home. This ventilation fan should be vented similar to your clothing dryer to an outside source this will prevent the buildup of mold and mildew in your bathroom.

It is important to run the shower for at least 5 minutes before using. Switch through all the shower functions to make sure all the pipes have been cleaned of residual chemicals from manufacturing. I have heard accounts of people getting hives because they didn’t flush the hoses of the steam shower unit properly before using it.

Modular steam showers are a perfect solution for your bathroom remodeling project they come in many styles ranging from traditional shower enclosures to contemporary showers. They are easy to install and can raise the value of your home, making it a worthwhile investment that you can enjoy for years to come.

Adding Value to Your Home Through Bathroom Remodeling

Whether you're updating an out-of-date bathroom for your family or selling a house bathroom remodeling is a sure way to add elegance and value to your home. The bathrooms in a house can be the determining factor of whether or not a house sells. Bathroom remodeling can be expensive so buyers generally are looking for bathrooms that already meet their expectations.

An easy way to add value to your house is to convert half bathrooms into full baths or three quarter bathrooms. This can be easily done by installing a small shower enclosure unit or steam shower. Neo-angle showers and corner units are a great way to save space in a small bathroom while adding that futuristic look you've always been looking for. These units are inexpensive and add elegance and function to your bathroom with features such as a steam generator, back massage, foot massage, sound system and much more. Homes with steam shower units installed have been reported to sell in half the time as normal houses.

Another quick way to add value to an already existing shower that still looks good but is a little out of date is installing a modern shower panel. These shower panels transform typical showers into luxury showers. They come in a variety of styles and have options such as digital temperature display and adjustable massage jets. These shower panels are very economical ranging from $300 - $600 and can drastically increase the value of your property.

Master bathrooms are the most important bathroom in the house. This should be the nicest bathroom in the house. Modern master baths are more like home spas with the addition of massage bathtubs and steam showers. Remodeling your master bathroom is a sure way to increase the attractiveness and value of your home. When planning your master bathroom renovations keep in mind buyers are looking for a large shower with a built-in or external bathtub. Large 2 person steam baths are an economical way to fill this demand. They also have many extra features that really grab buyer's attention. Updating your old bathroom fixtures is another way to increase the appeal of your bathroom. When planning your renovation decide what type of theme you are going with. There are many bathroom vanities that come in many styles and materials ranging from glass to exotic woods. It is important to match your vanity with the rest of the bathroom fixtures, for example you wouldn’t want to have and old fashion marble vanity with a modern computerized steam shower. My-Bath.com has old fashion fixtures with modern day features, such as claw foot jacuzzis.

Flooring is another very important part of bathroom remodeling. There are many choices such as linoleum, tile, and hardwood floors. Tile is a favorite among buyers. It ranges in price from $1 per square foot up to $20+ per square foot. Linoleum is another option and is much cheaper; however it isn't as durable and isn't as impressive. Depending on what bathroom fixtures you have installed you should match the floor. If you have installed an economical acrylic steam shower you can get away with installing a cheaper linoleum floor and it will look great. However if you have choose a high end glass shower we recommend tile or hardwood floor with a protective covering. This adds visual appeal and durability to the bathroom.

‘Thank God I Had a Gun!’

If you grew up in a house without guns the idea of actually owning a gun may seem foreign or perhaps even frightening to you. Like many Americans, you probably grew up believing you didn’t need a gun because the police were a phone call away. Adding to the fear of guns, the majority of news reports involving guns feature tragic accounts of murder, rape and robbery. But what we rarely hear about are the millions of Americans who defend themselves with guns each year from criminals. Who are these people? They’re average Americans; level-headed, responsible citizens that you might sit beside in church on Sunday or play golf with on weekends—and their extraordinary accounts of self-defense are provocative food for thought.

“We hear so many tragic stories about criminals shooting people that there’s a negative perception about guns,” says Chris Bird, a gun-rights activist and author of the new book, “Thank God I Had a Gun: True Accounts of Self-Defense (Privateer Publications, 2007). “Guns have been vilified in this country when having a gun and knowing how to use it could someday save your life.”

As a former crime and investigative reporter, Bird saw too many cases where criminals got the best of law-abiding citizens. He started to research the cases where a would-be crime victim turned the tables on their attacker, often without ever firing a shot. He points to research by Florida State University and other universities estimating about 2.5 million ordinary Americans use a gun to defend themselves from criminals each year.

“One of the best-kept secrets in America is how often and how effectively ordinary citizens defend themselves with firearms against a criminal attack or threat,” says Bird. “For decades, Americans have been brainwashed into taking a passive role in their own survival. They have been told that the government will protect them. But it’s clear that police play a limited role in protecting citizens.”

Bird cites the lawlessness that descended upon post-Hurricane Katrina New Orleans as a perfect example of the systematic breakdown of law and order. The government was clearly not in control of the city after the levees broke, unleashing torrents of water and chaos on the city. During the mayhem that ensued, looters, thieves and thugs had free reign.

“What Katrina demonstrated is that we’re just one disaster away from anarchy. Many police officers simply fled the city and many who remained were part of the problem, not part of the solution. And anyone who tried to ride out the storm was left to fend for themselves,” says Bird. “And that includes protecting themselves from the thugs who were stealing cars and roaming the streets looking for dry, empty houses to loot.”

Bird points to the story of Vinnie Pervel, a contractor in New Orleans who up until the aftermath of Katrina, didn’t like guns and was uncomfortable having a weapon in the house. After being hit in the head and carjacked, Vinnie became a believer in armed self-defense.

“That experience transformed Vinnie,” says Bird. “He went home, found an old shotgun that belonged to his partner and for the next few weeks, Vinnie, his family and a neighbor stood armed watch over their home and street to protect themselves from the criminals who were trying to take advantage of the disaster. They knew the police weren’t going to help them; they had to rely on themselves for protection.”

Bird, who is also a certified concealed weapons instructor, believes the collection of stories about self-defense featured in his book illustrate lessons from which we can all learn. If you’re a gun owner, Bird advises you to:

*Seek training to learn how to use your gun
*Practice shooting your guns frequently and safely
*Always know what is behind your target (are there innocent people in the surrounding area)
*Always treat your gun as though it is loaded
*Avoid getting involved in third party disputes; use your gun only to defend yourself, your family or very close friends
*If you must shoot an attacker, remember your purpose is to stop his hostile action; not kill him
*If you have shot an attacker, always consult a lawyer before you give a statement to the police

Natural Area Rugs an Ideal Choice for Your Home

Area rugs can do a lot for a room. They can add some color to a drab floor and walls, they can protect high traffic areas from stains and wear and tear, and they can provide some warmth to cold, hard tile or wood floors. Rugs can also bring a little bit of nature and the great outdoors into your home if that rug is one of the many types made from natural materials. Natural area rugs include old staples like wool rugs and bamboo rugs, as well as newly popular sisal and jute rugs.

Let’s first take a look at wool rugs. Wool is one of the most versatile natural fibers known to man as it possesses stain resistant qualities and is very resilient and durable. Wool also has a remarkable ability to absorb water vapor without feeling wet, up to 30% its own weight, in fact. In addition, wool is naturally flame retardant and is biodegradable, so it won’t clog landfills like many synthetic fibers can. If cared for properly and cleaned regularly, a wool rug can last for generations. And we all know that everything comes back into style eventually.

Jute is one of the oldest known fibers used in rug construction, and it is one of the most eco-friendly. Jute is a soft, shiny vegetable fiber that can be spun into strong, coarse threads, or very fine threads of jute can be separated out and made into a silk-like fabric. The great eco-benefit of jute is that it can be grown in 4-6 months, making it easily renewable and environmentally friendly. Jute is second only to cotton in amount produced and is used to make a variety of products, including fine area rugs.

Last, but definitely not least, we’ll take a look at a natural fiber that is as durable as it is environmentally friendly. This wonderful stuff is called sisal. Sisal is an extremely rugged natural fiber obtained from the long, knife-shaped leaves of the agave plant, which is extracted by crushing and scraping away the green pulp of the leaves, leaving only the fibers behind. Sisal’s great versatility allows rug makers to produce a range of woven floor coverings with bold yarn textures and a wide selection of colors.

Types Of Conservatories: Understanding The Options

This is very common, and often what people ask for when it comes time to get a conservatory for their home. For others, it can difficult to know exactly what you are looking for. With so many options in the marketplace, getting what is right for you can sometimes pose a challenge.
Addition of a sunroom is much more favorable to peace of your mind and satisfaction of life, which should remain so balanced that once it is built and you have to face the prospect of paying and of using it for many years to come.
Generally, there are two important types of sunrooms from which you can choose. The first kind of room is the one which is built on the existing porch or deck. This will hamper the shape of room, but it is the least reasonably priced because the bottom of the room is already completed. It very important for you to ensure, that this pre-existing structure then hold the weight of an extra makeup on top of it. On the other hand, the second type is completely stand alone room which can be made according to your specification. The flooring is been made specially, and any kind of sunroom can fit on top of it.

You will also have to decide the style of sunroom which will match your living style. Let’s say, if you are a cosy couple then you may want a different type of room and if you are outgoing couple then you may opt for the other one, and if you are a growing family then you might want a different room as well.
Conservatory is the most smallest of the sunrooms. Conservatories have some limitations for nothing but more than plants and wicker furniture. Now a day, some adventurous homeowners are building any type of room in the house from kitchen to bedroom.
Conservatory patio room is something which is built on an already existing body of your house, such as patio slab or deck. It is more important for you to make sure that the base of the house should be strong enough to sustain the weight of an extra new structure. Not only that, but if should be strong enough to resist snow which may heap on its top during the winter.
This kind of conservatory must be three season sunroom, because it is not something which is normally built and use round the year. No cooling and heating can be installed. The conservatory sunroom which is built particularly for its own prepared slab is much more expensive because it entirely insulated and also have cooling and heating system of other room in your house and will also allow you to use round the year.

How To Choose A Safety Box Cutter

When you think of the basic tools you could have in your tool box; hammer, screwdriver, pliers, etc., you might not think of including the ordinary box cutter. However, this is a must tool to have. From opening the obvious box to freeing your kid's toy from every parent's arch nemesis, the plastic claim shell package, the box cutter has found hundred of uses on the job and in every room of the house.

When you think of a box cutter, what may come to mind is a single sided razor blade that is held securely by an inexpensive metal holder. Although this type of cutter is readily available, it may not be your best choice to buy and use.

The number one issue with all cutters is safety, more importantly the lack of safety. Thousands of work related injuries are reported each year based on users cutting themselves because of exposed blades. Injury claims on the job not only causes pain and suffering of the injured worker, but it also causes hardship on the injured employee's company in lost time and medical claims. It's the same issue at home when cutters are left on countertops or workbenches with the blade exposed for little hands to find.

Manufacturers of cutters realize today that safety is the number one concern of users. They have responded by designing various ways to keep the benefits of using a cutter but minimally expose the user to the cutter's blade. In essence, a safety cutter. So how do you keep the benefits of a cutter and take away the safety issue? Turn to cutters that have the feature of an automatically retractable blade.

When using a safety cutter with an automatically retractable blade, the cutter itself ensures the blade returns to its protective sheath when the user completes their cut. This allows the user to perform their cutting task and then place the cutter down on their working surface or into their pocket without the danger of being cut by an exposed blade.

In choosing a safety cutter, make sure the cutter matches your job requirements. For example, not all safety cutters are designed for heavy duty use. If your cutting requirements demand cutting heavy rope or tough materials, choose a cutter that is designed for this purpose. This ensures the cutter will perform as expected keeping you and others safe.

If your cutting requirements include cutting packaging tape, boxes, bags, twine, toy packaging, etc, then you can use a safety cutter designed for light or medium duty use. These cutters are generally less expensive than heavy duty cutters and are smaller and less weight. This is a big plus when you are cutting materials for long periods of time and hand fatigue turns into repetitive motion hand pain at the end of the day.

LEATHER FURNITURE REPAIR

Leather furniture suffers various damages and indignities, requiring repair to remove unsightly problems. Too many people have unruly or bored pets, maybe a puppy that is teething, or a cat that uses a sofa back for a scratching post, or worse. Repairing or replacing the leather in whole or in part can be the solution to these damages. Many appreciate the patina that leather develops as it ages, including dark patchiness from wear, or other characteristics of a fine old top grain aniline dyed, vegetable tanned leather. How should we figure out whether to repair or replace the leather? The determination is partly based on usage, and on our aesthetic tastes.
Leather that undergoes significant stress in upholstered furniture must be evaluated to see if it is serviceable. If you can tear the edge of leather between your fingers like you might tear paper, then it will not last long on a seat or arm or inside back of a chair or sofa. Unless it has historic or other important significance, the “heroic” efforts required to conserve such fragile leather is rarely worth the cost. Such pieces are better to look at and not touch, not practical for many homes. Badly torn or ripped leather on a seating surface is generally replaced. If only part of the leather is being replaced, such as a seat cushion, the new leather should be carefully matched to the old. Often the new leather must be dyed and stained with aniline dyes, or pigmented lacquer or vinyl finishes to match to the existing leather. Color matching of leathers is difficult to do, the texture of the leather is highly visible and an important component of successfully repairing the leather damage.

Some leather is not subject to much stress in daily use, as on a desktop or screen. Leather on a desk may be more easily repaired and saved than a sofa cushion, even though extremely fragile and despite great age. Losses or burns in old leather tops may be restored by inlaying similar leather, and an artist touching up, dyeing and staining to match the adjacent coloration and patination, even distress.
Commonly required repairs include gluing down minute cuts from cat claws, followed by filling minor damages with a flexible filler colored to match the leather, touching up and staining worn leather that appears to have the finish and dye worn off, or touching up other discolorations from spilled liquids. It is common to have fine old leathers wear down, and lose the finish coat. If the leather is not fragile, such leather can often be very successfully restored, and extend the life of the leather for another ten or twenty years of heavy usage.
If you have leather that is worn, torn, or in need of repair, seek the advice of a competent leather upholstery and repair company that has on its staff artists and finishers that regularly perform leather repairs. It is a skill that requires a great deal of experience to develop proficiency, and one that can work miracles restoring your treasured leather furniture.

WHY REPAIR OLD FURNITURE?

Old furniture is an important part of our heritage, and helps to define our self- image. Many people prize their grandparents’ furniture, or that of more distant ancestors. Whether furniture is Gothic, or from the Renaissance, Colonial, Federal, Rococo, Baroque, Victorian, Art Nouveau, Mission, Modern, or Post-Modern, all styles convey a powerful image of who we are, and how we view the world around us, and signify to others how to view us. Some old furniture is somber and serious, traditional, or whimsical, poking fun at other older furniture styles and periods.
Repairing old furniture is an essential part of possessing it. We are caretakers of our furniture for future generations, if we repair and conserve it, rather than ignore the maintenance and preservation needs, and hasten its demise. Unless old furniture is repaired, it will not survive our usage or serve our needs for long. Old furniture is functional, and unless maintained, will fail to function as intended. We are all familiar with the loose chair that breaks, and if not repaired, is soon discarded. Or the worn, scratched, and heat-marked dining table. By repairing our old furniture, we are maintaining our self-image, and showing others that we care about ourselves.

The most common repairs are needed by the most heavily used furniture, chairs. For the past hundred years, chairs have generally consisted of a frame of legs and rails, connected mostly with wooden pegs, or dowels. This design is economical but flawed compared to pre-industrial furniture. Wood shrinks as it ages, and the dowels no longer fill the holes to connect the legs and rails, and chairs wobble unless re-doweled and glued, in anywhere from two years to seventy, depending on the initial quality and precision of construction. The newer the chair, the faster it will fall apart; that is the predominant manufacturing ethic found today. Contemporary manufacturers are not interested in the preservation of our self-images, and their disrespect is all too often apparent. Pre-industrial, old furniture did not have separate connecting elements; the legs and rails were made a little longer, and inserted into one another directly, with mortise and tenon joints. It is a joinery system that often needs little maintenance for centuries.
Whether we repair our old furniture to support us, or to host a meal, our old furniture needs periodic repair to support our lifestyles. It gives back to us, many times what we invest in it, to serve us and our future generations.

You Can Have Fun With Wall Textures, Ceiling Textures

In some parts of the United States, the most popular wall textures are NO TEXTURE. Smooth. Same goes for ceilings. This means a perfectly flat and blemish free surface.

But out here in the wild and woolly Pacific Coast where I live, plaster and drywall textures are popular. Some will say that is because textures tend to hide a bad plaster or drywall job.

In some cases, could be. But it could also be that people LIKE the look of a textured surface. Some wall and ceiling textures are gorgeous.

In my work with old plaster and drywall, I find the demand for wall and ceiling textures to be high, and so I have my bundle of texture sample boards to show clients.

Most of my jobs involve either matching an existing texture or applying one of my own unique patterns.

And sometimes my customers like to watch as I put on the texture they have chosen. I may hear comments like: "Hey, that looks like fun!" and "How hard is it to do that?"

And my answer to both kinds of questions is, "Yes, it's fun and I bet you could learn to do this, too."

Sometimes I may recognize that I am not being 100% honest when I say this. After 35+ years, it's not ALWAYS fun, and yes, some textures take some practice to do well -- but behind my response there lies a strong kernel of truth: this is essentially a fun project that a motivated do-it-yourselfer can master with practice and patience.

And that may mean you!

But before you jump in with both feet, allow me to give you a few hints to get you started right. These are things I have learned over the years, some by trial and error.

Because ... I don't always get it right the first time. And you probably won't either. Hence the need, once you get going, to EXPERIMENT and PRACTICE.

The easiest texture materials to use are those designed for drywall. They work for plaster as well. They will stick to both painted and unpainted plaster and drywall.

Standard all-purpose drywall compounds can be thinned and used as texture. Or you can buy boxes of pre-mixed texture compound. Texture compound also comes as bags of powder. (At least true for the U.S.)

Pre-mixed texture mud may need to be thinned. Same goes for pre-mixed all purpose muds. If you mix your texture compound from powder, keep track of your powder-water ratio so you can duplicate it anytime in the future.

The only way you will know if your mud is the right thickness is by experimenting with your tools and textures until you get the effect you like.

Some effects need thicker mud, some thinner. If you are mixing from powder, remember that it is easier to thin your inital mix than to thicken it. In any case, when mixing from scratch, let soak overnight to soften lumps and get it smoother.

Texturizing tools can run the gamut from taping knives to trowels, to various kinds of brushes, to texture rollers and even to commercial texturing tools.

I have even used my hands, ala fingerpainting in grade school. What fun!

Several words to emphasize: EXPERIMENT, CONSISTENCY, PATIENCE.

By experimenting, you discover the thickness of mud that is easiest to work with. You find what tools you like best. Consistency of application is your goal.

(For example, there are some absolutely stunning texture effects I can do, but I have a very hard time getting them to be consistent over the whole wall or ceiling, expecially if these are large.)

And patience will insure that you don't give up easily. Give yourself time to learn.

You will need to practice your technique before you tackle that wall or ceiling. Scraps of drywall or heavy cardboard or even painted plywood will work as a substitute surface.

One thing to remember - once you go for real, you are committed. That is, once you start, you will have to go corner to corner, the whole thing. With many textures, there is no leaving off in the middle.

This is why you probably need to start small. Try a small ceiling, or a small room of walls. When you can do that to your satisfaction, then you may be ready for something bigger.

When you are all done, and ready for paint, be sure to apply a good coat of drywall primer (PVA) first. This will lock up the porosity of your textured surface and provide the foundation for a much better paint coat later.

Now go have some fun!

Naturally Beautiful Bamboo Rugs and Fiber Rugs are Great Investments for your Home

When buying a natural fiber or bamboo rug, most consumers have qualms over whether these rugs will work the same way as a normal wool rug. And when they say normal, they mean will they be able to withstand regular vacuuming, can they support the weight of heavy furniture, among a variety of other questions. Simply put, just because a rug is made out of bamboo or natural fiber such as sisal or jute doesn’t mean that the integrity of the rug will be compromised. Today, we’re here to put those questions to rest and reassure you that when you purchase a rug, whether it’s made from bamboo, natural fiber or even wool, you’re making a great investment for your home.

If you’re considering purchasing bamboo or natural fiber rugs and one of your first concerns is whether cleaning and overall maintenance will be an issue, no need to worry. Bamboo rugs can easily be wiped down with a damp cloth while jute and sisal rugs can be vacuumed regularly. Be careful to not get your fiber rugs too damp as this will compromise the strength and durability of the fiber and mold and mildew may develop. If by chance mildew or mold develops on your bamboo rug, simply wipe down with a damp cloth soaked in a water and bleach mixture.

So long as you don’t place your rugs on high pile carpeting, your bamboo and fiber rugs will be able to support heavy furniture pieces such as tables, couches and beds. For bamboo rugs it’s recommended to use felt cushioning or round rubber caster around the edges to avoid any scratching.

And for those of you who wonder if these special rugs can be used in the outdoors, you can as long as you take proper care of them. As mentioned earlier, if fiber rugs get damp then the strength of the fiber will weaken. It’s best to use these rugs in areas where there’s little humidity or in a covered outdoor area. The same can be said about bamboo rugs; as long as they’re used in a covered outdoor area then it’s perfectly fine to use outside. However, it exposed to too much sunlight your bamboo rug will fade over time.

As unique rugs, bamboo and fiber rugs bring a natural beauty perfect for any setting. Aside from the material they’re made out of, these rugs are guaranteed to wow and heighten the look of any home, which is simply one of the best decorative investments you can make.

Natural Woven Wood Shades Have Wow Factor

Remember those old woven shades? When you wanted to raise one, you had to roll it up by hand like a humungous burrito and then while holding the unruly beast in place, secure it with a hand-tied knot. There were virtually no colors to choose from; I remember maybe three. And, matchstick bamboo was practically the only style. That was then and this is now. Natural woven woods are now chic and cool and come in a tantalizing, almost mind-boggling array of styles, colors, textures, features and options. When choosing woven wood shades these days, you have to do your homework. A good place for guidance and enlightenment is the internet and the various internet retailers. Consider the ones that sell multiple lines of natural woven woods by nationally recognized blind and shade manufacturers. To help decide if woven wood shades are the right choice for you, the following is a summary of the significant components and options: Natural woven wood shades are hand-woven and are relatively environmentally friendly. They come in a variety of materials: woods, bamboos, weeds, and grasses which can compliment a wide variety of decorating styles. The grasses are generously loomed and are soft and flowing with an exotic, modern, jungle-feel. The bamboo and reeds bring nature to its elegant best with a tropical flair, while the matchstick’s tightly woven, uniform construction gives a more formal look.

If something truly unique and eye-catching is your forte, consider a combination. These shades are intricately woven by using two or more natural materials in stunning patterns. The color range of woven woods is naturally beautiful from creamy whites to luxuriant ebonies, and almost everything in between, including all hues of browns, gold, oranges and greens. Similar to roman shades, the natural woven woods have a graceful, definitive construction. When in the closed position they feature either a classic flat roman fold or the elegantly looped hobbled fold. The lift options include the standard cord, on your choice of side, with shade descending. A handy lift option is the top down/bottom up feature especially for bathrooms and bedrooms where privacy is important but sunlight is desired. If you’re dressing a large bay or picture window, a lift worth considering is the continuous cord loop with its heavy-duty clutch and pulley mechanism. Cordless woven woods have just hit the market and not a moment too soon. It’s an excellent safety option where small children or pets are a concern, or if you simply prefer the uncluttered look. Additional options are privacy or blackout liners and edge binding. Since woven woods naturally have gaps, some more so than others, you’ll want to consider privacy liners. They provide just that - privacy, while allowing a soft glow of light to filter through. A blackout liner is ideal for bedrooms and home theatres. Fabric edge binding comes in matching or contrasting colors, in patterns or solids and, along with giving a finished look, can add lifetime to your shades.

They provide maximum insulation thereby increasing energy efficiency. The glass room controls the air temperature inside, even during extreme climatic conditions. These patio room enclosures are best suited for regions with a breathtaking view, by allowing maximum space for viewing the landscape. The English-Style conservatories are well known for their classic design and elegant look and feel, you can select from a range of decorative Victorian sun room conservatories to the magnificent Georgian structures.
Features of Sun room Conservatories
These conservatories have their respective architectural plans. They are provided with beautiful windows of various frames, you can also select from a range of stained glass to add a personalized touch to the conservatory. The doors and windows can be provided with multi point lock facility for added security. Instead of glass, if you use polycarbonate multi-ply for the roof you will get increased insulation, they only allow the soft light to diffuse inside the room. The walls have multiple chambers and the PVC used to make the walls of the sun room is reinforced with metal to provide more strength to the structure. This feature also makes the conservatories more durable. You can derive greater ventilation by fitting the turn and tilt windows. In times of bad weather conditions, these windows can be tilted in such an angle that they provide the necessary ventilation with allowing the adverse weather to affect indoor atmosphere, they can also be opened to 90º angle. giving you unrestricted view of outside environment.

Conservatory Design and Style
The conservatories can be built according to a number of designs and styles. Some of the common styles and designs include Victorian conservatory, Georgian conservatory, Edwardian conservatory, Mediterranean conservatory and Pavilion conservatory. The Victorian models sometimes have aluminum exterior and interior finish, they are provided with interlocked window and door sashes with thermal panels. You can select a number of systems for your doors and windows from fixed to dual, removable screens to sliding ones, child secure handles to double lock, in place of aluminum, you can also have wood interiors. They can have aluminum exteriors with laminated wooden beams and thermal panels. The windows can have various attachments including double security lock, awnings, grills, and casement windows. They have low maintenance cost and the construction is energy efficient, they are available with the French swing doors or the sliding doors with glazed roof panels. The Double Victorian style is a hybrid variation with Victorian arcs and Edwardian columns.
The Edwardian conservatories are usually built with a corner facet of 45º, they have a typical vaulted ceiling that is often made up of stained glass, they usually run parallel to the house and are best suited for conventional houses. The Georgian conservatory provides you with spacious rooms made of glass that are economical and are energy efficient, they are provided with insulated roofing and thermal panels with interlocked window and door sashes, they have quad doors or swinging French doors with removable screens and have child proof door knobs with double locking system.
Extending The Room With Conservatories
Your rooms can be extended to form the conservatory patio rooms, porches, full glass rooms and the three or four season sun rooms. The patios allow the fresh air to enter, but stop insects and unwanted intruders from entering. But most of the time using this room is done only in summer or when the chill is not there in the air. You can build the sun room on an existing structure or just convert a room into a sun room depending on your needs. Some of the conservatory sun rooms make use of the heating and cooling system of the house to regulate the room temperature of the glass enclosed area. If this facility is not provided, you can easily install the system in the conservatory. The conservatories facing the North require fewer blinds as they are the coldest. On the contrary, the South facing ones are really warm and require constant ventilation in the form of open windows, vents on roofs and tinted roof. The West facing conservatories gets the benefit of the evening light of the sun, while the East facing one gets the morning sun and is best suited as a breakfast room. Conservatories sure do add charm to family relationships by bringing all the family members together in the morning and in the evening to share the outdoor environment and enjoy the beauty of the surrounding landscape. If well planned, they become the ideal place to relax and indulge in your favorite pastime.

Many of the garages are too full of other things so that they find difficult to park their vehicles. So planning is to be made in such a way that it can easily fit a vehicle as well as have enough space for the purpose of storage. Organized garage can be fulfilled with an effective planning, dedication, and determination. Let us understand step by step for the organized garage plan.

Primary step is to formulate a plan, that what is the main use of the garage? Will there be a small workshop under the shed of garage? Or there will only be space for the vehicle? Such question can only be solved with a plan. Once you have decided about the target than you can initiate preparing your plan for organization. It would be effective to note down the ideas and also come out with the sketches of your imagination. Drawing need not to be a top notch quality as it serves just for the content. After formulating the plan in papers than you need to buy the things required for the garage to store. This may contains cabinet, specialized wall forms like tools kit, some other hardware, workbench, supplies, etc.

Once you bought all the needed stuffs for the garage its time for execute your plan. Now this is the part of the plan where you need do some physical activity. You can start doing by your own with the help of building garage kit or you might take the help of professional.

The second step is time to action; remove the garage stuffs from the location. If the contents are bulky than is advisable to acquire the renting facility, if you are not having appropriate space around or inside your house. At this stage main target will be building and improvement and the estimated time will be one day. If you are looking for some decoration and painting stuffs than it depends upon how much you consume. Painting and sealing is very important for garage to avoid from molds, rodents and for different weather conditions. Keep the stuffs into the garage when paint gets completely dried and smoothly finished.

Third step is to organize your garage for storage of tools, equipments and other hardware items. This is the time where you need to find out what are the items required for the garage and what could be done if the particular item is unavailable. Pay Day Cash Advance: Knowing When It's Right For You

Pay day cash advance is the technique in which money is paid to you earlier and then credited into your account later. The live example of pay day cash advances is credit cards, although the money credited is calculated differently then your current line of transaction.

The money credited is different then your line of credit and accompanying interest rates and fees. It varies from company to company and their various policies. The only important thing you have to keep in mind is the charge levied on these credited money, many companies uses a flat rate of interest on these transactions some companies charge a flat rate of interest and then according to the slabs which will increase the rate of interest as the value for borrowed money increases (like first 50 dollar flat and then additional on every 20 dollars borrowed).

Also the most important thing you have to keep in mind is as soon as the money is borrowed the interest rate starts and no matter you pay the bill as soon as possible, you will still be charged the interest rates on the loan. And for most of the companies this rate will be much higher then the annual percentage rate charged on any other normal transaction.

Now if you decide to take cash advance through your credit card find out the interest rate as well as the fees on the transaction.

Pay day loan advances is a huge business across the states and you can find cash advance stores and centers operating and doing good business by charging at a higher rate of interest. These are termed as the post dated check loans. Now to understand the simple terminology is if a person has got insufficient funds he or she will go to such centers and he will write a check on which the center will agrees not to provide cash until the next pay day.

It seems very easy but it becomes complicated at a later stage the reason being you will be charged a fees of your transaction then in addition to the fees you will be charged at higher rate of interest and if you cannot be able to pay the consolidated amount (the principle amount + interest+ fees) on time your charge will be rolled over and they will access the additional fees from you and some time these charges become so expensive that it will effect your mental peace.

The cash advances looks good at the time of the need but you have to always look at the cost which depends on the type of loan you have taken and the also your capacity to pay back and it changes from person to person.

And to conclude I just want to say that rather running after these type of loans it is better idea to keep your budget adjusted that it will be easier for you to avoid such situations which will affect your mental peace in case you miss the payment. A budget and planning always helps in reaching the goals of life safely and always helps in avoiding such situations.
