Bathroom Remodeling Ideas

When you think about Ideas, what do you think of first? Which aspects of Ideas are important, which are essential, and which ones can you take or leave? You be the judge.

When homeowners decide to do home improvement, they think the bathroom. This is the place where one can get away from all the stresses in life. By redesigning your bathroom cabinets, sinks, bath tubs or even the floor, you can turn your bathroom into a newly designed retreat where relaxation and unwinding is the ultimate experience.

The bathroom is the most used room in the house so it should seem that it is the most remodeled room. After a certain period of time owning a home, the bathroom becomes the most boring even if nothing has been done since you moved in. Most likely your bathroom is the standard white sink, white tub, and white toilet. Now there are many bathroom renovations ideas to choose from such as a spa bath, fog free mirrors, a warming bathroom floor to name a few. Install a new shower faucet with an anti-scald pressure regulator - remove the scenario where someone flushes the toilet and out comes scalding water from your shower faucet. Replace crumbling tile in the shower stall with a maintenance free shower surround. Grab bars in the shower, new water-saver toilet and/or a new whirlpool tub. You can go from a small bathroom remodeling design project to a major bathroom renovation. The size of the project will depend on the size of your budget and the amount of inconvenience you want to have. Remodeling a bathroom can be expensive. The average cost of a full renovation of a bathroom when hiring a contractor is about the same as the cost of a small car. By doing part or all of the remodeling work yourself, you can save thousands of dollars. While making a decision about bathroom remodeling, remember that in most recent years homeowners were able to recoup approximately 85% of their costs upon sale of their home. This recovery is when a professional remodels the bathroom.

If you base what you do on inaccurate information, you might be unpleasantly surprised by the consequences. Make sure you get the whole Ideas story from informed sources.

Some professionals consider small projects consisting of replacing the tub with a new tub or a shower unit. If this is what you are considering for your bathroom, you will need to include the flooring in your plans. Most new tubs or shower units will not cover where the old flooring conformed to the old tub. This work will involve removing fixtures (toilet, etc.) which will cause labor costs to rise. A project like this is okay but most homeowners usually consider a medium to large remodeling project for the bathroom. For these projects you want to plan very carefully so you will be happy with what you end up with after the project is completed. You will want to make sure that you have extra facilities to use while the remodeling is in progress. Your plans should include the fixture placement, i.e. do you keep the old layout or create a new one? What type of lighting do you want? Do you want task lighting at every functional area or general lighting throughout the bathroom? Do you want a bathroom heating system to keep you warm when you get out of the shower (i.e. floor warming system)? Do you want greenery or how about a HiFi television for your bathroom? Fog free mirrors? No more waiting for steam to clear before you can see yourself! Plan carefully and within your budget! When the project is completed, enjoy the new room you designed for you and your family!

Sometimes it's tough to sort out all the details related to this subject, but I'm positive you'll have no trouble making sense of the information presented above.

Home improvement md: give your home the best chance

There’s a particular washington business that’s never going to fail, provided that the level of skill and competence is maintained high: the genuine industry of home improvement. In the highly active – and challenging – area of home improvement, a washington business will be successful if the assistance it can offer to the homeowner set to alter his house to a higher degree is able to match the high degree of expectations of our homeowner. What do we mean by assistance? Basically, it is supposed to offer the client all the valuable and competent home improvement premises, on account of which he could make a selection.

After the selection is operated, the homeowner will also be spared from the troubles that an improvement design can generate, in the case where the targeted transformations must be accomplished on more than one level. Now, the many advantages of home improvement md services are displayed online. For instance, browsing a page like http://www.welcomehomewashington.com/cat_result.php?cat_id=2, each homeowner determined to make some improvements to his bath or kitchen will find there the information he needs for reaching whatever home improvement washington business he considers best in the domain.

However, home improvement does not stop at the tiles added to the kitchen or the new paint in the bathroom. On the contrary, an entire array of services is available, as you can clearly notice on http://www.welcomehomewashington.com/cat_result.php?cat_id=14. Subsequently, home improvement md is functioning on as many levels as the clients require. Let’s look for a few moments at what’s happening in the mind of a potential client before requiring the home improvement services of a specialized washington business.

Well, basically, all of the homeowners’ concerns will most often be accumulated under the form of a more or less organized enumeration founded on two categories. Let’s label them, in an attempt to largely comprehend them, as “needs” and “fancies”. Obviously, our first category will center on what is a must for home improvement, while the second will focus on what could provide the homeowner with just some pleasure – most of the times, at the visual level. In simpler words, we are talking about the utility and the decorative purposes of home improvement. A reliable washington business in the domain of our concern will certainly comply with the demands of the client.

Therefore, to continue with our enumeration, the client will have his thoughts wander along all imaginable and unimaginable levels of home transformation. From tile and flooring to patching, paint, roofing, plumbing, heating, and decorating, home improvement md services need to cover them all. It is not uncommon for the homeowners to come to require the assistance of home improvement washington business services with some of the most imaginative and, at the same time, most demanding, home improvement plans. When you look at the entire matter more carefully, you will notice that it all becomes connected to one particular approach: visualization.

In consequence, homeowners will “see” their homes under the most various “fashions”. While some houses are kept simple, with a touch of a more traditional manner of construction and decoration, others are thought of in modern, ultra-modern and even surprisingly hyper-modern terms. The good thing is that home improvement md services can adjust to all of the clients’ requirements. They are equipped with both the material and the skill to do it. And while to the homeowner it may take days to obtain the full inventory of the proper materials they need, let’s say, for basement insulation, an expert will necessitate a significantly smaller time interval, since he already has the experience and only needs to operate an estimation of the amounts of material he needs and of the sum total of money you will have to pay for the accomplishment of the adequate home improvement services.

In the end, it is all intended to fit the better interest of the homeowner. This means that any home improvement md expert will take care that the place he has been given for “refashioning” will become a genuine enjoyment to live in. It is the only competent manner that can match all homeowners’ beautiful expectations to what concerns the final appearance of their homes.

Eight Ways to Add Value to Your Home

Two story brick traditional with 4 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, island kitchen, and large deck! Sound familiar? We often talk about houses in terms of room count, along with a list of finishes, such as tile floors, granite counters, or faux paint. While this vocabulary conveys certain facts, it does not provide the tools to think about how to re-design a house in a fabulous way.

It is valuable to be able to make the decisions that transform a poor design into a house that is memorable, enduring, and widely appealing. To do this we need to go deeper than simply updating finishes or increasing square footage. We must think about how the structure shapes the feelings and experience of its inhabitants. In the words of Winston Churchill, "We shape our buildings, and afterwards our buildings shape us." When a house has design flaws, we know intuitively that it does not feel right. On the other hand, a well designed house can make us feel inspired, enriched, and touched by a sense of order.

We often see houses that have some elements in the structure and site that appeal to us, but cannot be lived in without remodeling. Often our clients say that they want to find a house with good bones (meaning good basic design), that they can update. The truth is that most houses have some good design and some bad design. Painting walls and updating fixtures will not cover bad design. You will need to think about the house in a deeper way. Use these design processes to help you make the difficult decisions that will result in a house that many people would love to live in.

1. Relate the house to the site.

Think about how the house integrates and interacts with the land around it. This awareness is a basic, but often ignored, beginning. The connection and interplay between interior and exterior spaces enhances both in a powerful way.

Manage the views from each window. Is there an undesirable view into a neighbor's home or yard? Is there a nice view that is blocked by a wall or fireplace?

Notice how the walkway leads to the street, where privacy is needed, where noise buffering is needed, how drainage will work.

A side area could be a private garden, accessible from the main bedroom. A front porch overlooking the street could bring the house into a relationship with the neighborhood.

2. Bring in natural light.

Houses can be transformed by adding windows and other light sources. Generous light feels safe and uplifting, and attracts people toward it.

Natural light raises the level of importance and the beauty of rooms. Light all main rooms from two sides, if possible, to reduce glare and balance the light. Use glass doors, windows, skylights, transoms, or light tunnels.

Keep passive solar techniques in mind as you add windows and shading devices. The control of solar energy for light and heat is fundamental for an efficient and comfortable home.

3. Break down hard barriers between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Glass doors, screens, and walls that slide open can create semi-transparent walls, forming indoor/outdoor spaces that have enormous appeal.

Breezeways, garden rooms, bay windows, and screened porches are spaces that people love. These bring people into contact with the outdoors, yet may be furnished in a comfortable way.

4. Think of outdoor spaces as large rooms.

When all areas of the site are thought of as living spaces, new ideas open up. These outdoor spaces expand the house by creating a sense of semi-enclosure in various ways.

Their edges can be defined by trees, fences, wings of the house or other buildings. For example, an outdoor room may be a shady natural space on the site enclosed by a line of trees and shrubs.

Outdoor living spaces can be courtyards, walled gardens, trellis covered breezeways, stone patios, or outdoor showers. Think about their use and connectedness to the house.

Often, we see an exterior space that is built as an isolated destination place - a second floor deck, for example. If you have to make an effort to go there, the space will not be used. Outdoor spaces are most used when they are on paths used by people coming and going. This is why a front porch is a very appealing design element. People naturally meet here, and the porch connects with neighbors walking by.

A popular outdoor living area is the backyard deck. This is often seems to be an afterthought, tacked onto the house. Can it be covered and screened?

5. Consider widening roof overhangs or adding propped shutters over windows.

This is a green building technique in warm climates, blocking solar penetration.

The view of the outside roof structure seen from inside the house evokes a sense of shelter and protection.

If possible, extend the roof in some areas to create covered porches or breezeways. Rooms that are simultaneously open and protected are very appealing.

Inside the house, exposed rafters, rustic beams, or wood surfaces on the ceiling create feelings of strength and character in the home.

6. Review traffic flow - a crucial, but often ignored, design element.

Walk down the paths that bring you inside the front door, then lead you to various rooms through the house, and again to the outdoors. Do they cut through the middle of living areas? When this happens the living area will never feel complete and comfortable.

Circulation paths should lead along the edges of main rooms, and efficiently to private rooms. A maze like floorplan creates a sense of wasted energy and confusion. Few exterior doors may result in a subtle feeling of being trapped.

Bring multiple uses to hallways and connecting spaces with bookshelves, windows or window seats.

Set apart the main entrance with details such as a covered place to stand, special doors, benches, or potted plants.

7. Compare the sizes of rooms in proportion to each other.

People have an intuitive sense of the correct hierarchy of spaces. Small living spaces will seem wrong when combined with large bedrooms.

Homes with awkward design can often be improved by removing walls to make one large space from several smaller ones.

Consider the use and function of each room. Is the room to be used privately, such as a bedroom, study, or library? Or, will the family gather here to cook and eat informally? Some houses include formal areas, others do not. Some have many rooms, others are very open. There is no right or wrong decision here. Houses that have a true and intuitive appeal have a clarity as to the function of each room.

8. Choose materials as an integral part of the design - not as decorator selections made at the end.

For example, structural materials can be exposed, or flooring can be used to connect and unify spaces.

Bring in the beauty and texture of natural materials. Use materials that offset each other - warm and cool colors, rough and smooth textures, solid and delicate walls.

Use materials to connect the house to the site - for example, a wood clad house surrounded by woods, or a stone house next to outcroppings of stone. Or, connect the house to the neighborhood with historic colors and siding.

Repeat materials and colors to unify the interior and exterior.

Creating your home

How to create your home….
Interior Design Tips from Yourshowhome.co.uk

Choosing the colour.
Choose a colour that you like. There are no hard and fast rules about choosing a colour, however avoid a colour purely because it is ‘in’- you may live to regret it!

Colour can drastically affect your mood. Orange colours create a sense of warmth. Pink based colours are vibrant and dramatic. Green is calming and blue, cool and restful. A colour scheme of one/similar colour but different shades like off whites, cream & beige will give you an appearance of more space while warm colours like red and yellow will give an impression of a smaller space.

Adding pattern
If you have seen a showhome and a really appealing mix of patterns and textures, but don’t have the nerve to do it – don’t panic as it is easier than it looks.
The key is the size of the patterns that you select. Start with one large-scale pattern. Next, using the same colours, add a plaid, a stripe, or other geometric pattern. You can fill in with small-scale prints, or tone on tone geometrics such as diamonds, trellis patterns, dots or "squiggles". Try to repeat each fabric at least once in the room. Remember that if you find too many fabrics you like for the number of opportunities you have to use them in the room, carry them into adjacent rooms, as you can use a coordinating colour scheme in an adjoining room.

Creating space
To make a room appear more spacious than it is, try to minimize your possessions.
Purchase dual-purpose furniture (coffee tables with storage underneath, beds with drawers underneath or tables that fold down.)

Consider lighting
Consider how to use artificial light as well as natural light and, where possible, try to have it coming from more than one source or direction. Table lamps and wall lights on dimmer switches are ideal for living rooms.

Use mirrors wisely
Clever use of mirrors can give the illusion of more space. Strategically place a large mirror near a window so the outdoors can be reflected. This will make the room look brighter and bigger. Make sure mirrors reflect only things you want to see more of.

Adding warmth with rugs
To add warmth and coziness, invest in a rug to set the room off. Choose a rug that complements the colours in your room and also one that complements the furniture. If your room has a contemporary theme, try to find a rug that has geometric designs.

Adding personal objects
If you like surrounding yourself with pictures of memories and loved ones avoid placing them randomly around the room. A group of family photographs in frames on a small side table looks so much more impressive that having them spread out all over the room or hung on the walls individually.

If you like small ornaments try grouping them together, this looks very effective and is ideal if you like collecting things.
